Chili Connection

1 1/2 lbs. ground beef
1 cup chopped onions
28-oz can tomatoes, chopped
15-oz can kidney beans, undrained
1 tbsp. brown or granulated sugar
2-4 tsp. chili powder, to taste
1 tsp. salt

Brown ground beef and onions in skillet.

Combine all ingredients in slow cooker.

Cover. Cook on Low for 3-5 hours.

Variation: for thicker chili, stir in a 6-oz can of tomato paste in Step 2.
Jim's Comments:

I did this in a 3 quart slow cooker, and made no substitutions.

I'd rate this recipe as 'just o.k'. Sort of nothing to write home about.

If you're going to make this recipe, then I'd really suggest that you add the can of tomato paste as noted in the 'variation' above. As it is, it's like a chili soup and fairly watery.

If I were to make this again, in addition to the tomato paste, I'd serve it with some sort of bread/harder style dinner rolls or maybe some cornbread would be nice. I'd also ramp up the chili powder. I added 2 tsp., but that wasn't enough.

Leftovers were better than the first serving.
