Beef with Acorn Squash and Potatoes

2 pounds lean beef, such as round -- cubed about 1 1/2"
1 acorn squash -- peeled, seeded, and cut in 1" pieces
2 large red potatoes -- cubed in 1 1/2" pieces
1 large onion -- quartered, and sliced 1/4" thick
1 package dry mushroom gravy mix
1 can diced tomatoes with juice - (14 1/2 oz)
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon freshly-ground black pepper
2 large bay leaves
Salt -- to taste


Combine all ingredients in slow cooker. Cover and cook on LOW for 8 to 10 hours.
