Meatballs with Rice

1 lb lean ground beef or chuck
1/2 cup cracker crumbs
1/2 cup milk
1 egg
3 tbsp mince onion
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp basil
1/4 tsp savory, optional
3 tbsp flour
1 tsp paprika
1 28 oz can whole tomatoes, drained
1/2 cup sliced onion
1 tsp salt
1 cup raw rice


In mixing bowl, combine ground beef, cracker crumbs, milk, egg, minced onion, salt, basil and savory. Shape into twelve meatballs. Combine flour and paprika; roll meatballs in mixture.

Place pot on base. Place tomatoes in pot and break up with spoon to cover bottom of pot. Add onions and salt. Place meatballs on top of onions. Cover slow cooker and simmer at Setting #3 for 5-7 hours. One hour before serving add rice, stir bottom of pot. Keep warm for serving at Setting # 2.
