Creamy Swiss Steak

2 pounds round steak -- (or Swiss steak, cut 3/4-inch thick)
salt -- to taste
pepper -- to taste
1 large onion -- thinly sliced
10 3/4 ounces cream of mushroom soup, condensed
1/2 cup water


Cut steak into serving-size pieces. Season with salt and pepper. Place in slow cooker. Layer onion over steak. Combine soup and water. Pour into slow cooker. Cover. Cook on Low 8-10 hours. Serve over noodles or rice.
