Cinnamon Spiced Apple Cider

3 Macintosh apples -- peeled & thinly sliced
2 quarts apple cider or juice
2 cinnamon sticks
6 whole cloves
Whipped cream (optional)
Nutmeg (optional)


Place the apples in a slow cooker. Add the cider and the cinnamon. Cover and cook on LOW until the cider is hot and the apples are tender, about 4 hours. Serve mugs full with slices of apple. Top with a dollop of cream and a pinch of nutmeg, if you wish. * Cook's note: Serve with spoons so people can eat the apples.
