Hot Refried Bean Dip

1 16 oz. can refried beans -- drained and mashed
1/2 pound lean ground beef
3 tablespoons bacon fat
1 pound processed American cheese -- cubed
3 tablespoons taco sauce
1 tablespoon taco spice
Garlic salt


In skillet, brown beans and ground beef will in bacon fat. Add to slow cooker. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover and cook on High setting until cheese is melted, about 1 to 2 hours, stirring occasionally. Turn to Low setting until ready to serve, up to 6 hours. Serve with warm tortilla chips.

Makes about 1 1/2 quarts.
