Italian Beef and Aus Jus

1-1/2 to 2 lb sirloin tip roast
2 slices bacon
1-1/2 cup beef bouillon
1 heaping tablespoon dried oregano
1/2 tablespoon dried basil
1 medium onion
3 or 4 cloves garlic, chopped
Fresh ground pepper to taste

Combine bouillon, oregano, basil, and garlic. Slice onion and place slices at the bottom of the slow cooker. Place roast atop onion slices. Pour liquid mixture over top of roast. Top with freshly ground pepper -- a couple of cranks of the pepper mill ought to be fine. Place bacon slices on top of roast. Cook on low until meat is done to your liking. Give the bacon to your dog, then slice the roast for sandwiches. The leftover gravy is a fine Aus Jus to use for dipping, and you can top the sandwiches with the onions if you like.
