3 c. water
1 large onion
3 to 4 celery stalks, chopped
1/4 c. pearl barley
1 clove garlic, chopped
4 carrots, cut thin
1 (1 lb. ) can whole tomatoes
1 tsp. pepper
1 Tbsp. monosodium glutamate
1 (10 oz. ) pkg. frozen mixed vegetables
1 large bay leaf
1 lb. hamburger, browned and drained
2 to 4 Tbsp. beef base
Put all together in slow cooker. Cover and cook on low heat 8 to 10 hours.
