German Pork Chops and Kraut
1 can (2 pounds) sauerkraut
2 medium apples, cored and thinly sliced
1 medium onion, sliced thin and separated into rings
4 pork chops (shoulder loin or rib), 3/4-inch thick
1/2 pound knackwurst, cut in 1/2-inch slices
1/2 cup dry white wine
Caraway seeds to taste
1/2 teaspoon monosodium glutamate (Accent)
In a large bowl, mix the sauerkraut, apples and onion. Place a layer of the sauerkraut mixture in the bottom of a slow cooker. Top with a layer of pork chops and knackwurst slices.
Repeat layers until all the ingredients are used, ending with the sauerkraut mixture.
In a bowl, mix the wine, caraway seeds and monosodium glutamate. Pour over the sauerkraut in the cooker. Cover and cook on low power for 6-8 hours.
