"Fried" Chicken

1 (2-3 lb) fryer, cut into serving pieces
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp dried sage leaves or oregano
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp freshly ground pepper
butter or vegetable oil

Rinse chicken pieces and pat dry. Combine flour with remaining ingredients except butter. Toss chicken pieces with flour mixture to coat. In skillet, heat butter to 1/4-inch depth and cook chicken over medium-high heat until golden brown. Place browned chicken in slow cooker, adding wings first; add no liquid. Cover and cook on low 8-10 hours or on high 4-5 hours
