Italian Beef and Potatoes

1 pound lean ground beef
1/2 small onion -- chopped
1 box scalloped potatoes and sauce mix
1 can diced tomatoes - (16 oz)
1 can tomato sauce - (8 oz)
1/2 cup water
1/2 teaspoon oregano
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly-ground black pepper
1 cup cubed mozzarella cheese

Brown ground beef and onion. Drain well. Put in bottom of slow cooker. Mix in potatoes and sauce mix. Add remaining ingredients except cheese. Cook on LOW for 5 to 6 hours.

Turn to HIGH and stir in cheese. Let cook for an additional 15 minutes.
