Sixteen Bean Soup

1 lb. 16 bean mixture
2 quarts water
1 large onion, chopped
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 to 3/4 tsp. salt
1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes, undrained and chopped
1 (10 oz.) can tomatoes and green chiles, undrained (or use canned tomatoes with a can of diced green chiles)
1 lb. of ham hocks or smoked meat (just something cheap) for flavor

Put the beans, water, onion and garlic in to a slow cooker and cook for 4 hours on low then add the salt, ham, tomatoes and cook another few hours until done.
